WebFeb 6, 2015 · What usually happens is the piviot pins are steel and the mech is aluminum. They are a press fit close tolreance connection. Over time they loosen and egg out the hole in the aluminum. Biggest cause is using the steering wheel to pull yourself out of the vette. Always use the windsheld pillar, never the wheel. I was having the same problem with mine and traced it to the steering shaft. Of course, mine had 250K miles on it. Cost was about $120 and took less than an hour to swap.
