I've got the 42rle with 3.73s and 33s, and I'm happy. I didn't really notice any change when going from 31s to 33s. This is the only TJ I've driven though. I did correct the speedo though. Your speedometer will be off, causing your transmission to shift at the wrong points.

Web24 feb 2010 · Stock gearing and tires puts the jeep at 2150ish RPMs at 65mph (with an AW4). 3.55 gears and 30" tires (my current setup) puts the jeep at 1975 RPM. 4.11 gears and 33" tires puts it at 2075 RPM. 4.56 gears put it at 2300. The 'consensus' is that 4.56 is the best gearing for combined on-road/offroad driving with 33s with an auto. WebFrom my experience, running an AT vs mud tire didn't change mpg, but the ATs I had wore faster than my mud tires. Obviously, tire size will change it slightly though. When I had my TJ, I ran 33s, and a then got a set of 31s I put on for awhile to see if helped my mileage. It wasn't significant enough to make me want to run them for long.

WebI know this comes up often, and I have read through the old posts, but I would some opinions on my situation. I am running my dd, 2005 TJ with I6 and auto trans on 33" tires. I am pretty sure it is still the stock 3.73s dana 30 up front and dana 35 in rear(i bought it with already 33s on it).
